DRAWING WITH LIGHT
One Of A Kind, Life-Sized, Black and White, Photograms
__________________________
Karen stages scenes on photo paper on the floor in the darkroom, meticulously arranging people, objects, and text. She then exposes the scene to light, and develops the paper using traditional photographic methods. No camera is used, so no negative is produced, making each piece a one-of-a-kind. Karen’s work speaks to her experience facing life as a contemporary American woman, prompting reflection on identity, presence, and what we see of ourselves in others.

"Finkel Fishof is not having us 'read the noise,' however, so much as feel it ever brewing in the play of light and shadow."
— PETER FRANK - ART CRITIC, CURATOR AND EDITOR
"Artist Karen Amy Finkel Fishof pursues a playful, inventive, and distinctly recognizable practice — one that, while rooted in photography, expands to engage conversations with painting, language, performance art, historical avant-gardes, the enduring appeal of vintage technology, and the power of physical presence."

“Karen’s entire body of artwork is extremely original.”
